A JT8D powered transport by McDonnell Douglas. First flown in 1975 as part of a competition to replace the C-130. The C-130 is still flying, but design ideas that originated on the YC-15 did make their way onto the C-17.

Cool! I saw that bird in the metal back when I took a tour of the Boneyard at Davis-Monthan AFB. It's a neat plane; you can definitely see the influence it had upon the C-17.
